In the beginning of 2018 the following newsletter of Schmitz Textiles GmbH + Co. KG in Emsdetten/Germany informed about the completion of the step-by-step implementation of LOOMDATA in their production.

We would like to thank Schmitz Textiles for giving us the possibility to present this report on our website, as well as for our good cooperation.


"Last LOOMDATA stage in production"

At the end of February 2018 the last stage of the introduction of LOOMDATA in our production was taken with the integration of Inspection and Finishing. Now we have rolled out a consistent, future-oriented system across the board. We look back on busy and intensive months for all parties involved and are now continuing with the continuous improvement of functions along the entire value chain.

Our long-standing LOOMDATA partners Mr. Aquilini and Mr. Matern also look back on the completion of the integration with pleasure. They mentioned the complexity of Schmitz production due to the high variance and continuous process chain as a special challenge.

The complexity is illustrated by these figures: over 50 reporting points or reporting stations along the process chain. On average, 5'500 messages are sent per month.

After this final stage in production, we will continue elsewhere: In addition to the optimization of existing processes, the introduction of the calculation module in LOOMDATA is scheduled for 2018.

Industry 4.0 or Smart Factory - what is it? And how can LOOMDATA contribute the implementation in your company?


What means Industry 4.0?

Industry 4.0 - the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution - describes the combination between the current information and communication technologies and the existing manufacturing and automation technology.

Nevertheless, a delegate should take the time to become familiar with the approaches of Industry 4.0. Even the partial implementation and the consideration of the operational processes, as well as their revaluation and organization usually result in a profit for every company that should not be underestimated.


LOOMDATA and Industry 4.0

LOOMDATA considers to be a complete software and hardware solution for the industry. The main focus is the collection of production and quality data of the connected machines. This data is stored in a central database and visualized by the LOOMDATA desktop or portable applications. Thanks to our own hardware and sensors even older machines can be connected to LOOMDATA.

LOOMDATA can be integrated into existing or future Big Data structures via our efficient OpenSystem interfaces.

Permanent communication with the machines enables real-time planning of orders at all production stages. Bottlenecks are detected and displayed at an early stage. Complete feedback of production events ensures that raw materials are planned and purchased according to requirements. Orders are directly entered by the Sales department and transferred to the Material Management online. The proposal board provides the responsible person with an overview of the ordered articles and forwards the quantities to be produced to the shop floor via departmental production orders.

The production orders are smartly displayed and monitored in the planner. Status colors and alarms signal delays and production bottlenecks.

The integrated warehouse management supports the common methods of stock management, such as First In - First Out, Just-in-time, Just-in-Sequence, etc. Tickets and order documents are created by the users with the Ticket-Print-System and the document management. In combination with the suported mobile devices, bookings are made and documented promptly.

All data is stored object-related. This guarantees full traceability of used raw materials and executed production steps.

Man-machine interface
Industry 4.0 intends the direct and indirect interaction of humans in the production process. That allows effective operation and control of the machines.

Internet of Things / and Services
This term was used by Kevin Ashton in 1999 for the first time. It stands for a new age and relates to Industry 4.0: connective technology intends to support people in their activities.
The Internet of Things refers to the ever-growing network of physical objects that feature an IP address for internet connectivity, and the communication that occurs between these objects and other Internet-enabled devices and systems.


Finally, we would like to refer to the expert group for Industry 4.0 of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BiBB) in Germany. Our partner in Germany, Mr. Jürgen Matern, is part of this group.

The BiBB created a questionnaire, which has been answered by different textile companies. The gained knowledge is taken into account in the training regulations for machine and plant operators in textile technology and textile finishing.

Nevertheless, our LOOMDATA support is faced with hardware failures every once in a while. In such cases it is necessary that emergency plans are working to avoid a disaster.

If you are not able to answer the questions we asked in the beginning with a resounding "YES", then you should check your emergency plans and modify if necessary.

Simple tasks can help avoiding system breakdowns, preventing data loss or reducing recovery times. For this, periodic or, even better, automated controls are necessary. Please contact us if you want to learn more about that.

LOOMDATA Version 5.1


In the middle of October we released LOOMDATA Version 5.1 which is now available to all of our customers.

As a highlight we implemented a new tool named Shift Editor. This tool gives the possibility of correcting the production data mentioned below.

  • Recorded shifts in shiftless time

  • Incorrect assignment in ran shifts

  • Wrong data in ran shifts

  • Missing shifts due to missing shift planning

  • Missing data due to system failures

Our Release Notes informs, as usual, about the preconditions and installation of our new software.

For our customers with a maintenance contract, the new version is free. That means, you will only have to pay for the costs of installation and training.

For our customers without a maintenance contract we offer the new version as an upgrade at a competitive price.
